Keep Maine Competitive Coalition

As you know, we have been working with the Keep Maine Competitive Coalition to help pursue a legislative solution to the impacts Maine is set to face with the newly approved 3% surtax on incomes greater than $200,000.   Under the current law, Maine now has the 2nd highest income tax rate in the country at 10.15%.  As a result, we have heard from numerous business owners who are moving their operations elsewhere to escape the unreasonable tax, and we have joined the coalition to help remove the 3% tax and ensure Maine businesses stay here and continue to produce Maine jobs.

The time for action is now! In the coming weeks, legislative leaders will meet with the Appropriations Committee to construct Maine’s next biennial budget. It is imperative that you reach out to your legislator and urge them to remove the 3 percent surtax and find an alternative funding source for education.

In order to do so, we are asking you to take the following steps:

Click here to directly email your legislator and ask them to remove the 3 percent surtax and find an alternative source for education.

Through the citizen’s initiative funded by out of state dollars, the voters told the Maine Legislature that they wanted more money for education.  However, the impact of funding source went unnoticed.  With your help, we will remove the surtax that hurts Maine’s economy and direct money to support a strong K-12 education system invested in closing education gaps, directing funds to proven practices that benefit the state’s most at-risk students and ensure a career and college ready workforce for our future.

In addition, the coalition will be implementing a paid advocacy campaign.  If you are willing to financially support this effort, you can make a donation at the following link:
