The history of Goggin’s IGA began sixty-nine years ago, in 1946, when Jack’s grandparents, Norman and Ruby, won a coin toss with their business partners to take sole ownership of what eventually became Goggin’s IGA.
Jack’s father, Ron worked at the store from the time he was a young boy, through his attendance at Husson College, eventually taking ownership after graduating from college. In 1997, the Goggin’s finally made the big move from a 2,500 square foot store to a 26,000 square foot store with Norman continuing to manage the store on a day to day basis until his passing in March of 2006.
Jack, Kathy Jo, Jack’s sister Jan and her husband Walter worked at the store throughout their school careers. Kathy Jo ran the front end and handled human resources and Jan managed the produce department, while Walter was the meat manager and Jack ran the grocery, frozen foods, dairy and liquor departments. Eventually, Jan left the store to raise her five children and Walter went on to pursue a career in plumbing with his father. After Ron’s passing, Kathy Jo and Jack took over the ownership of Goggin’s IGA, with Kathy Jo overseeing the front end and financial operations, and Jack managing the day to day business of the store.
Jack and Kathy Jo Goggin have dedicated their lives to the well run and well loved Goggin’s IGA, making all those that shop there feel like they are a part of the family. They have been proud members of the Maine Grocers & Food Producers Association for many years and have strongly supported the Associations work on behalf of Maine’s grocery industry.
